Tokens

Token: Something that takes the place of words in communicating a thought or feeling.

As a token of a mother's mind, on Mother's Day I surprised myself by wearing two different earrings to church.

As token of respect, on Mother's Day everyone at church declined mentioning it to me.

This was not really embarrassing. Only kind of. To think I'd been smiling and chatting with people while they were thrown off balance by two close-but-no-cigar danglies in my lobes.

What was really embarrassing occurred last night at a baptism. Tenley was in my lap and took the time to lovingly unbutton all but the top button on my denim skirt. I was not wearing a slip. I made this discovery after I'd gotten up, walked down the isle and sat next to another woman who looked into my lap and said, "Uh. . ."

Too bad I've already posted about that particular token. It would have fit in so perfectly there.
