BLUE WITH ENVY

untitled

I know little children (some of them mine) who beg for Bakugans, Princess Cash Registers, video games they have to have or they’ll die, even their own cell phone or laptop for Pete's sake.

I know parents of some of those children who indulge in those lusts.

I could roll my eyes ‘till they rattled but I’m not really any more mature with what I want.

To illustrate, let’s spend a moment back in time.

For two years I desperately wanted green sneakers.

I searched for the perfect grade of green and the perfect shape of shoe.

I finally found them last summer.  They sang to me from the shoe rack at TJMax and I bought them.

I confess, I have worn them only once since I bought them.  I wore them hiking.  (Yes Miss H, these are those shoes…and aren’t they totally cute?)

However, this is not really like me.   I usually wear everything I do not return to the store.

Here is something else embarrassing.

Almost immediately after my quest for green sneakers ended I began desperately desiring Converse’s distressed Jack Purcell sneakers in navy.   They have to be the Jack Purcell style because:

They are the perfect shade of blue.

They are the perfect shape of shoe.

They are the perfectly distressed.

Sometimes I just look them up online and gaze at them.

I know.  I know.  Material belongings.  Blah, blah, blah.

But still, I love them so much that I dreamed Miss Elliott got herself a pair and was wearing them around and I wanted to yell at her, “Those are MY shoes darn you!”

I mean in my dream I wanted to yell at her.

In my real world I think she is a dear and gives very uplifting Relief Society lessons.

Anyway – what am I?  A four year old?

I suspect somewhere in this tale is a very good moral lesson; for adults, children, and adults belonging to children.

I’m going to spend some time thinking about the moral.  Just thinking.  I probably don’t need to admit it out loud.

There.

Now in conclusion I say this:

If by some strange turn of events those navy shoes are put on sale  I promise to find a good and loving home for a certain pair of like-new green Sketchers.
