EVERY YEAR

IMG_0308Every year we eat as much sugar as we can in December.

Every year we have to go through detox in January.

Every year in December I look forward to detox and that healthy energetic feeling that will surely come with it.

And every year, about three days into it, I begin missing all that chocolate, butter, sugar, and salt.

And every year I sympathize with The Pirate.  It hits him the hardest because he loves sugar.

One time he told me that when we go on vacation I need to pack him the brown sugar.

The only cruel and torturous way around detox is to have Family Home Evening because after FHE is FHE treat.

Recently it was the afternoon of Family Home Evening.

The Pirate had been clean for two whole days (not including the doughnut Mr. Right snuck in when they went to the grocery store.)

The Princess wanted pudding for FHE treat and so pudding I was making.

I tell you, when that Kitchen-Aid motor starts a-humming my little Pavlov’s come a-running.

The Pirate stood in the doorway watching all two minutes of mixing.

He watched me scoop it out into dessert bowls.

He watched me carry all the dessert bowls to the fridge.

His eyes got big with horror and disappointment as I put the bowls in the fridge to set and be eaten later.

“NOOOOO!!!!!”  He screamed as his blood sugar level betrayed his self-control.

“NOOOO!!!”  He sobbed as he flung himself onto the floor and began to thrash.

“Hey!  Hey!”  I tried to tell him.  “We’ll still eat this but we have to wait until after dinner.”

“NOOOOoooooooooooooooooooo!”  His scream faded away as he ran blindly through his tears to the opposite corner of the house where he could shake and twitch in private, until dinner time.

P.S.  Mr. Right did the houses with the bugs.
