SHOES REQUIRED

Mr. Right mopped the kitchen floor.

He usually does this chore every other week or so.

I have to sweep it every day. Usually two times a day. Sometimes more.

But I never mop. Mostly because I don't like moving the chairs away from the island. They're unwieldy and no incentive for mopping. If I'm going to mop I absolutely need a better incentive than a clean floor.

Maybe an incentive like people are going to come over.

Well no that's not really a good incentive.

Maybe if I knew they were going to eat off the floor.

So today Mr. Right mopped the floor.

When he was finished he said, "Go enjoy it because it's going to get messy in about 10 minutes."

So we danced around barefoot.

You're thinking Mr. Right is great because he mops every couple of weeks or so.

I'm thinking he's great because he never accuses me with, "How can you let the floor get this bad?"

Anyway, if he did I'd say, "Unlike you my dear, I don't try to go barefoot. If I'm going to walk in the kitchen I require myself to wear shoes."

I also extend this courtesy to guests.

Some guests try to be polite and remove their shoes when they come in the house. As they lean over to pry off their footwear I protest, "No, you can leave those on."

If they continue to remove their shoes I have to insist, "No. Really. I think you should leave your shoes on."

Typically they don't believe me.

Don't they know I have three kids?

Do they relish the mopping experience and think others do to?

Oh well...what squishes between their toes is their business.

However, if you come over today take off your shoes please.

At least for the next ten minutes.
