WHO'S FANCY NOW?

Did you ever want to be like someone?

The Princess wants to be just like Fancy Nancy.

The Princess talks like Fancy Nancy by using words like "R.S.V.P" and "parasol".

The Princess tries to be like Fancy Nancy in others ways too.

"I want to decorate my room like Fancy Nancy."

"I can only wear skirts like Fancy Nancy."

"I want a dog like Fancy Nancy."

Princess, if you get a dog you must take it outside three times a day and wait for it to poop...then you are responsible for cleaning up aforesaid piles of excrement.

"Oh." A fancy pause. "Then I want a cat instead of a dog, but I shall name it Fancy."

If we have a cat I, the Queen, get to name it. But that was a far cry from the point so I didn't mention it.

Truth be told, I too used to have a Fancy Nancy I wanted to be like. Her name was Prudence Cowley. That sounds not very fancy, but actually she is very stylish and clever and funny. Her adventures have even been written up in The Secret Adversary, Partners in Crime and other fun reads.

One day it dawned on me that Prudence lives in England and has lots of money.

I don't.

Anyway, her life is often in danger and that sort of looses it's thrill when you have three little bugs.

Oh, and she's not real.

So instead I realistically settled on just being like a lot of different people...which sounds not very fulfilling at all so I'll explain.

I want to be smart like J.F. I want to be patient like D.S. I want to be stylish like B.H. I want to be fun like L.B. I want to be witty like L.W. And I love, love, love my sister's sense of humor.

How can wanting to be like all these people be fulfilling? Mostly because these are some really great ladies I know. The kind of gals that are so great that when you're with them you kind of feel like you have those great qualities too.

Actually, these ladies help me feel something even better than that. They kind of help me feel like the best me. Maybe even clever...or funny...or if I'm wearing my cute green shirt which does very nice things for the tummy the twins bestowed me with- even stylish.

Golly gee, I think I'm happy to be me. The sometimes great Queen. Who is still coming along, but kneisly so.

So Princess you just go on and be the best Fancy Nancy you can be. One day you'll realize you were really making yourself into a Priceless Princess.
