AS THE WORLD TURNS

IMG_0649

For the record, The Princess is in first grade.  At home.

Yup, we spend our morning hours working on school stuff.  Mr. Right teaches science.

Music, literature, poetry, math, history, language, art.  We do it.

Then come 12:30 we’re free!  So we eat lunch.

We like it.

It’s fun.

Miss Lili met up with The Princess the first day of school and asked her, So, how do you like home-school?

The Princess replied in the positive and then inquired of Miss Lili, “Did you know there is a whole class about geography?”

Miss Lili said, Why yes, do you like it?

“Yes!  It is the best class everrr!!”

Miss Lili told me later that what she thought to herself was, “And that is exactly what I’d expect you to say: you little girl who love China and Mexico and traveling.  Of course you’d love a whole class about them.”

On the same note…

We have been working very hard to get ahead in our school work because next week we go to Disney World.

You heard me.

That’s right.

Disney World.

And before we will be leaving we will be adjusting our little internal bug clocks so we can get up in the morning Eastern Time.

This means we have to go to bed early so they can get up earlier.

You heard me.

That’s right.

Early bedtime.

I told The Princess, We have to start going to bed earlier so we can stat getting up earlier so when we get to Disney World it won’t be such a shock to our bodies.

“Why?”

Because any excuse for an early bedtime is a good excuse.

Because if I felt it was possible I might get you to sleep by 6:30pm.

Because as much as I love you and enjoy homeschooling you, your combined efforts as little bugs exhaust me to the point of not even being able to think  a single coherent thought by 7pm and I have to vegetate in front of a wall for at least 30 minutes until I recover.

But what I said was,

Because the sun comes up in Florida before it comes up in Washington.  Disney World is in Florida.

She paused and than understood. “Ohhhh, because Florida is on the east coast and the sun comes up in the east.  That makes sense.”

It’s those geography lessons I tell ya’.

And then she said,

“So are we going to go to bed on Washington time?  That way if we’re in Florida we actually get to stay up late.”

Absolutely not.  I would curl up and die first.  And listen, if  you don’t go to sleep here and now, then in Florida you’ll be going to bed on London time.  Good night.

“Good night.”
