As I brushed The Princess' hair I informed her,
We're all going out today to run a lot of errands. We'll get back late this afternoon. We'll be crossing the bridge.
Crossing the bridge means not coming back home until a whole lot later. This means something to The Princess and she asked me, "So are we eating lunch out?"
Oh, darn, I hadn't thought of that. Hmmm..it's sometimes hard having kids.
I kept brushing and then she said, "It would be harder if there was just one of you."
What do you mean?
"It would be harder if there wasn't a dad or mom."
You're right, what made you think that?
"I just thought if it's hard with two it would be harder with one of you."
It would be...You know, sometimes girls think they'll have a baby without getting married, so you think that would be hard?
"Yeah."
But they think it will be easy, they think babies are cute.
"It would still be hard."
But they think, 'Oh babies are so cute and I can dress it up and play with it all day.'
"No, it would be work because they have to take care of it and they have to dress it and spank it when it's naughty." (Spank? OK let's let that slide.)
But the young girls think that if they want to go somewhere they can just take their really cute baby with them and it would be fun.
"They could take it with them...but who wants to change a stinky diaper when you're on a date with your boyfriend?"
Good point. Your hair is done.
(And for the record...spank? I'm sure she doesn't even know what that is.)
Oh, and we ate popcorn for lunch while we watched UP in an airconditioned theater.
