On the 8th of April, when The Pearl was eight weeks old, birth dad’s rights were legally terminated.
Here’s what our Adoption To-Do list looks like. (We got hung up at step number 1 for a few years, but we’re moving right a long now.)
1. Find a baby.
2. Terminate birth-mom’s rights
3. Terminate birth-dad’s rights
4. In six weeks participate in one more house-study.
5. Turn in house-study papers to judge.
6. Smile happily when judge makes the adoption legal.
7. Get baby blessed and sealed to us.
8. Live happily ever after until she turns three and starts up with tantrums.
When I told the bugs about step 4 they got nervous.
It’s not that bad guys, I comforted them. We’ll be OK. We’re good people and we take care of her. They just want to see it for themselves that we are nice to her.
The Princess finally spoke their fears, “How long will the watchers be watching us?”
Maybe an hour at the most.
They all sighed with relief. “Oh phew, we can be nice to her for at least an hour” she explained.
We can only try.
