For the second time in their lives, the bugs watched one of their parents cross a finish line.
Last year when I, the Queen Mother, crossed the finish line Mr. Right said, “Well if you could do it, then I certainly could too.”
To prove him right I reminded him to register when registration opened.
When he “forgot” to register I reminded him again.
When he wasn’t training I took him to the store and made him buy running pants.
When he still wasn’t training I helped him find a “Training for Marathon” book to read.
When Sweet Little Gals dad-in-law invited Mr. Right to train with them really early on rainy, dark Saturday mornings I beat Mr. Right to the punch and said, “Why he’d just love to go with you.”
And then I gently reminded him to set his alarm the night before.
I didn’t think I had made much of an impact until Mr. Right crossed the finish line. After I finished being screaming proud of him he took me aside and said, “When I was running and I thought I wouldn’t make it I thought of you.”
You did?
“Yes. I remembered that you told me, ‘You can do this.’ And I believed you because you’re always right.”
Well, it takes one to know one don’t it.
P.S. Adrienne came up to run with her brother.
